Yesterday, trenchless industry association UCTA bestowed its annual Most Valuable Professional Award on CIGMAT's Dr. Cumaraswamy Vipulanadan, Ph.D. Barbco unveiled a much-requested disc cutter, debuting at UCT after over a decade's wait for a commercial offering. UCT's first ever SafeZone started offering attendees a shot at locating a tricky line on-site, while the Rehab Zone showed off with live demonstrations of three separate technologies.

After three years on the road, the annual Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exposition (UCT) returns to Houston from Jan. 25 -27 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

UCT is the underground construction industry’s premier trade event, focusing exclusively on the underground construction and rehabilitation markets. It is the only annual industry event that brings together contractors, utility providers, consulting engineers, manufacturers and service providers in a true business and educational environment.

The China International Trenchless Technology Conference & Exhibition (Trenchless Tech) will be held April 16-17, 2011 in Wuhan, China. Sponsored by the China Society Trenchless Technology and hosted by Shanghai Kexi Cultural Exchange Co., Trenchless Tech is geared for technicians and companies engaged in trenchless technology, pipeline and environmental engineering.

An expanded Damage Prevention & Safety (DP&S) Conference again will be a part of the 2011 UCT (Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exhibition) scheduled at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center Jan. 25-27.

Two days of educational sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 26, with a day-long Staking University locator certification seminar on Thursday, Jan. 27.

If you are looking for how cutting-edge trenchless technology is being used in innovative ways, the Sixth Annual Western Regional No-Dig Conference & Exhibition to be held in Tempe, AZ, will present several discussions on that subject.

For the 15th year, the Center for Innovative Grouting Materials and Technology (CIGMAT) and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering hosted a one-day conference on "Construction, Geotechnical, Hurricane and Flooding Issues in Houston & Other Major Cities" at the University of Houston on April 23. More than 280 attendees consisting of owners, consulting engineers, material suppliers, contractors and academia attended and participated from across the U.S.

A record registration of 200 attendees marked the American Pipeline Contractors Association’s 39th Annual Convention at the El San Juan Hotel & Casino in San Juan, PR. This was on top of a record attendance at the 2009 meeting in Scottsdale.

A near-record crowd of 350 attended the Power & Communication Contractors Association annual convention at the Contemporary Resort, on the grounds of Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, March 20 – 23. That number included 20 new members and 40 first-time attendees.
